Peermade
Peermade is located about 40 Km from Kumily. 915 m above sea level.Idukki district, central Kerala. Peermade is a lovely hill station, an ideal retreat in the Western Ghats and a choice break for tourists en route to the Periyar Tiger Reserve. Located 915 m above sea level, at a distance of around 40 Km from Kumily in Idukki district of central Kerala, this beautiful hill station in the Western Ghats is known for its green landscape. Peermade is named after the globe trotter, Peer Mohammed, 13th century Sufi saint, who was a friend of Travancore royal family. He was buried at the hoot-hill of Peeru hill. This spot offers breathtaking view of the hills. Peerumedu has various sorts of plantations, such as, tea, coffee, cardamom, vanilla and rubber. Peerumedu and surrounding areas are ideal for trekking, cycling and horse riding. All these facilities are available on the spot on asking. Summer Palace of the royal family, located here, is a fine heritage piece, though it is now converted into a government Rest House. Another attraction here is Thrissanku Hills four Km away. The rolling hills, the lovely landscape and the gentle breeze make this a choice spot for long walks. The remnants of the colonial rule and European buildings make this spot historically important.
