    Located in the southern state of India, Kerala, Idukki National Park is one of Kerala's finest havens for wildlife . A land-locked district, Idukki is one of the most nature rich areas of Kerala. The Idukki Wildlife Sanctuary here spreads over an area of 77 Sq.km in the Thodupuzha and Udumpanchola taluks of the district. Located at an altitude of 450-748 Mtrs above sea level, Idukki National Park occupies the forestland between the Cheruthoni River and the Periyar River covering an area of 33 Sq.km.

    The landscape includes a scenic lake around the sanctuary, which adds to the beauty of the sanctuary. The lake, which surrounds the sanctuary on three sides, is covered by an charming canopy of tropical evergreen and deciduous trees. You can enjoy boat ride on the lake.

    Attractions

    Idukki Arch Dam is the world's second and Asia's first arch dam, constructed across the Kuravan and Kurathi hills. 550 ft high and 650 ft. wide, the dam lies close to the Cheruthoni barrage. To its west is the Kulamavu Dam. The Idukki Wildlife Sanctuary is located close by.

    Idukki Wildlife Sanctuary is located at a distance of 40 Km from Thodupuzha. This sanctuary extends over the Thodupuzha and Udumpanchola taluks of Idukki district spreading over 77 Sq.km, at 450 - 748m above sea level. The Idukki reservoir formed by three dams-Cheruthoni, Idukki and Kulamavu-extends to 33 Sq.km.

    A picturesque lake, a majestic arch dam across two hills and roaming herds of elephants and gaur are sights that lure you to this enchanting canopy of tropical semi-evergreen and deciduous forests. The fauna also includes Langurs, Leopard and Wild Boar.

    This sanctuary extends over the Thodupuzha and Udumpanchola taluks of Idukki district, spreading over 77 Sq.km. and is about 450-748 m. above sea level. The Idukki Reservoir formed by three dams - Cheruthoni, Idukki and Kulamanu - extends to 33 Sq.km.

Elephants, bisons, bear, wild boars, sambar wild dogs, jungle cats, tiger, wild boar etc are seen here apart from various species of snakes including cobra, viper, kraits and numerous non-poisonous ones. Birds include jungle fowl, myna, laughing thrush, black bulbul, peafowl, woodpecker, kingfisher etc.

    The wildlife here is similar to that of Thekkady. This sanctuary lies adjacent to the world renowned Idukki Arch Dam. The lake on the three sides of the sanctuary offers a panoramic view to the tourists.
