Idukki Wildlife SanctuaryLocated in the southern state of India, Kerala, Idukki National Park is one of Kerala's finest havens for wildlife . A land-locked district, Idukki is one of the most nature rich areas of Kerala. The Idukki Wildlife Sanctuary here spreads over an area of 77 Sq.km in the Thodupuzha and Udumpanchola taluks of the district. Located at an altitude of 450-748 Mtrs above sea level, Idukki National Park occupies the forestland between the Cheruthoni River and the Periyar River covering an area of 33 Sq.km.The landscape includes a scenic lake around the sanctuary, which adds to the beauty of the sanctuary. The lake, which surrounds the sanctuary on three sides, is covered by an charming canopy of tropical evergreen and deciduous trees. You can enjoy boat ride on the lake. AttractionsIdukki Arch Dam is the world's second and Asia's first arch dam, constructed across the Kuravan and Kurathi hills. 550 ft high and 650 ft. wide, the dam lies close to the Cheruthoni barrage. To its west is the Kulamavu Dam. The Idukki Wildlife Sanctuary is located close by.Idukki Wildlife Sanctuary is located at a distance of 40 Km from Thodupuzha. Birds include jungle fowl, myna, laughing thrush, black bulbul, peafowl, woodpecker, kingfisher etc. The wildlife here is similar to that of Thekkady.
